The Holy Spirit Gives Power – Corrie Ten Boom
A short summary of yesterday’s message entitled “Watch”
WATCH, n. It is from the same root as wake. To be Attentive
“My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning”. Psalm 130.
I invite you to take an exciting journey with me in seeing and experiencing the Holy Spirit.
THE BEGINNING and the BEST
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves again to fear; but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by Him we cry, ‘Abba, Father'”.
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Notice the initial evidence of the Holy Spirit is Boldness.
Acts 8:1 and following …
“Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria”.
“Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. So there was great joy…”
“Do not quench the Spirit”. (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
There are many ways we can quench the Holy Spirit:
By NOT listening…adding what He says to our list of options
By NOT keeping our hearts soft
A man called Mr. Pentecost David Du Plessis (1905-1987)
“…a long-time secret sin was restricting the Spirit’s flow. After he confessed he had a vision. He saw a book being held by two hands whose pages were totally white and clean. Then he heard a voice say, ‘There is nothing recorded against you. The blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God has cleansed you from all unrighteousness.’ His heart was filled with joy at this, and he broke forth in holy laughter which soon gave way to a flow of speaking in tongues.”
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you” (John 14:26).
It is so, so important that we are in the Word and the Word is IN us.
Ephesians 5:18 – a command literally ongoing, saying “Be being filled”.
“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit”
